Basis and provenance

The July maintainer advisory identifies the exact missing vault equality check across approximately 90 tool sites and lists npm version 1.3.1 as the first published correction. Impact remains ungraded because a comparable, verified realized-loss or deployment-population measure is unavailable.

Controls and mitigations

  • Use 1.3.1 or later; where that is impossible, isolate vaults by process and credential.

Unknowns and contradictions

  • No affected customer or production misuse count is documented.
  • The public advisory does not establish exploitation without a valid token or multi-vault configuration.
