Google Cloud announced Agent Compute Engine, Agent Substrate and cross-cloud identity, governance and egress control as part of its 22 October 2026 agent infrastructure roadmap. Benchmarks are vendor-reported and some components remain in preview.
Agent Compute Engine's isolation and Agent Substrate's advertised fleet-scale scheduling solve different problems: the former constrains execution and credential exposure around individual guests, while the latter concerns how many agent environments can be started, resumed and governed. The disclosed gateway concept is only an effective external authorization boundary for requests it actually intercepts and identities it can validate. No public customer compromise-reduction metric accompanies the preview architecture, so infrastructure benchmarks must remain distinct from security outcomes.
