Open Responses is a vendor-neutral schema for agent responses, messages, tool call items, streamed event states and provider- or client-hosted tools. The October 2026 Linux Foundation AAIF adoption changes governance, not proof of identical authentication, rollback, tool execution or cancellation semantics across conforming providers.
The interface defines message and tool items plus progress and streaming events under Agentic AI Foundation stewardship. A provider can follow the same response schema while assigning different authorization scopes or retry semantics to tool executions, so a shared wire format must not be treated as portable security enforcement.
