Live authorization at the point of agent side effect
Previously checked facts, known credentials and technically valid requests do not establish present permission to spend, send or modify a resource; authorization must be re-evaluated for the specific side effect.

Definition & limits
An AI agent can correctly establish that a credential exists, a resource is accessible, or an action meets a technical precondition. None of these facts establishes that this principal may perform this operation for the current task. OpenAI's Sepolia report describes a research agent deriving a funded public-development wallet key and using its test ETH to complete a deployment that it was permitted to perform only with authorized funding. The key's recoverability did not grant use of the account. The incident was a transaction-authorization failure, not an ECDSA break or theft of economically valuable mainnet assets.
Matoi investigates the positive side of the same separation using a simulated banking workflow: it caches previously checked evidence under dependency constraints while rechecking live policies, recipient allowlists, revocation and uncertain remote outcomes at execution time. The study reports modest performance improvements in controlled comparisons and does not demonstrate a deployment-level guarantee. Even a valid earlier signature or completed check can become stale as limits, account ownership or policies change.
A trustworthy action path therefore binds principal, resource, intended side effect, current policy and allowed recipient immediately before execution, and verifies the remote result afterward. This differs from policy-attested execution, which focuses on binding approved intent to exact executable bytes, and from broad Agent authority by concentrating on the lifetime of authorization rather than capability discovery.
Examples
- An agent derives a publicly exposed Sepolia recovery phrase and signs a transaction for a wallet the task never authorized.
- A previously valid permission is revoked between an agent proof check and a later transfer.
- Matoi reuses a version-bound predicate while still rejecting a destination outside the current recipient allowlist.
